Postponement of the 2021 Nijmegen Conference

The corona crisis affects the professional and personal lives of everyone and will most likely continue to do so for some time. There is widespread uncertainty about travel, and many universities have announced cuts in funding for conference attendance for the next year. For these reasons, the Council has decided to postpone the Nijmegen conference to Tuesday July 26 - Saturday July 30, 2022.

We have seen submissions of abstracts increase over the past several weeks and thank our members for their continued engagement with the Society’s biennial event and their continued engagement with ISHR. All submitted abstracts will be duly evaluated and submitters will be informed about the decision. In the course of next week, we will close the submission website and renew the call in December with a proposed deadline of May 15, 2021.  In case you would like to withdraw your abstract and submit a new one on the next call (December 2020-May 2021), please, let us know (ldiazmarroquin@filol.ucm.es or m.v.d.poel@let.ru.nl).

For next year, we are discussing the possibility of organizing one or several online seminars in order to remain in touch with our members and promote the Society’s mission.

In the coming months, we will keep you informed about any developments through the Society’s website, and you will also hear from me directly if necessary.

We in Nijmegen were so looking forward to receiving you all that it was a very difficult decision to make. But we console ourselves with the thought that our anticipation will be longer and our preparations even more joyful.

Please stay safe and healthy, so that we can welcome you in Nijmegen in 2022 to celebrate our friendship and our commitment to rhetoric !

Best wishes,

Marc van der Poel
President ISHR
