Guidelines for submissions of both paper and panel proposals (maximum 300 words):

The members of ISHR come from many countries and academic disciplines. The following guidelines are intended to make it easier for us to come together and understand one another’s proposals. The Program Committee recommends that all proposals contain:

  1. a description – accessible to a non-specialist – of the field of the proposal, including its chronological period, language, texts and other sources;
  2. a statement of the specific problem that will be treated in your paper; its place in relation to the present state of research in the general field under consideration; and its significance for the history of rhetoric;
  3. a summary of the argumentation involved in addressing the problem; and
  4. what is the potential contribution of the paper to the advancement of the subject.

Les membres de l’ISHR viennent de nombreux pays et disciplines. Les instructions suivantes visent à faciliter nos échanges et la compréhension de nos propositions respectives. Le Comité de Programmation recommande que toutes les propositions contiennent :

  1. une description – accessible aux non-spécialistes – du cham de recherche de la proposition, comprenant la période chronologique, la langue, les textes et autres sources ;
  2. l’exposition du problème qui sera traité dans votre communication ; sa place par rapport à l’état actuel de la recherche dans le champ considéré ; et son importance pour l’histoire de la rhétorique.
  3. Un résumé de l’argumentation nécessaire au traitement du problème ; et
  4. Quelle est la contribution potentielle de la communication à l’avancement des études sur le sujet.

La ISHR está integrada por miembros de diversos países y disciplinas académicas. Estas instrucciones aspiran a facilitar el intercambio y la comprensión de nuestras respectivas propuestas. El Comité de Programación recomienda que todas las propuestas incluyan:

  1. una descripción del ámbito de estudio de la propuesta -accesible para no especialistas- que debe incluir cronología, idioma, textos y otras fuentes;
  2. una exposición del problema concreto que se discute en la comunicación, su relación con el estado de la cuestión en el ámbito académico en el que se enmarca; y su relevancia para la historia de la retórica;
  3. un resumen de la argumentación desarrollada al tratar el problema; y
  4. cuál es la potencial contribución de la comunicación al avance en los estudios sobre el tema.

I membri dell’ ISHR provengono da diversi paesi e discipline accademiche. Le seguenti linee guida hanno lo scopo di facilitare i nostri incontri e comprendere le reciproche proposte. La commissione raccomanda che tutte le proposte contengano:

  1. una descrizione, accessibile a un non-specialista, dell’ambito della proposta, compresi il suo periodo cronologico, la lingua, i testi e altre fonti;
  2. una dichiarazione dello specifico problema che verrà trattato nell’intervento; la sua collocazione relativamente allo stato attuale della ricerca nell’ambito generale in esame; la sua importanza nella storia della retorica;
  3. un riassunto dell’argomentazione utilizzata nell’affrontare il problema; e
  4. qual è il potenziale contributo dell’intervento all’avanzamento dell’argomento.

Die Mitglieder der IGFM kommen aus vielen Ländern und akademischen Disziplinen. Die folgenden Richtlinien sollen es uns erleichtern, zusammenzukommen und die Vorschläge der anderen zu verstehen. Das Programmkomitee empfiehlt, dass alle Vorschläge Folgendes enthalten:

  1. eine für Laien verständliche Beschreibung des Fachgebiets, einschließlich der chronologischen Periode, Sprache, Texte und anderer Quellen;
  2. eine Darstellung des spezifischen Problems, das in Ihrem Beitrag behandelt wird; seinen Platz im Verhältnis zum gegenwärtigen Stand der Forschung im betreffenden allgemeinen Fachgebiet; und seine Bedeutung für die Geschichte der Rhetorik;
  3. eine Zusammenfassung der Argumentation, die zur Behandlung des Problems verwendet wird; und
  4. welchen potenziellen Beitrag der Beitrag zur Weiterentwicklung des Themas leistet.

Please note that all submissions will be assessed anonymously.

Acceptance letters will be sent in January 2025. Please note that inclusion in the final program will depend on successful registration for the conference. 

Information about the Conference, including hotel accommodation, will be provided in August 2024. The conference registration fee is still to be determined, but the Copenhagen organizers will endeavour to ensure that it is kept as low as possible. Graduate students and scholars from underrepresented countries pay reduced registration fees and may be eligible for travel grants. CLICK HERE to submit your application.
